Today, with the increasing population, people's increased demand for animal food has led to the emergence of larger-scale enterprises and, as a result, more animal waste. The risk of environmental pollution created by the waste generated in these farms necessitates the implementation of a sustainable waste management by abandoning the traditional methods in which some of the waste is converted into fuel and the majority of it is mixed into the soil as fertilizer. Sustainable waste management consists of storing manure and other animal wastes under appropriate conditions, recycling them with the best methods and recycling them into the natural cycle. Manure pit is an important project carried out in the agricultural industry to minimize environmental impacts and prevent animal waste from leaking into groundwater.
Challenges Encountered
Leaks cause significant environmental risks in terms of environmental health and water resources in manure pit and liquid manure pit projects. Therefore, the biggest challenge encountered in this type of projects is to complete the project with the least risk of leakage. For this reason, it is vital that companies specialized in this type of projects carry out these projects with quality materials suitable for the mechanical and chemical needs of the project.
SOLUTION
Istanbul Teknik GeoTeknik geotextile and GeoSeal HDPE Membrane were used in the manure pit project in the 3000 cows capacity dairy farm in Çanakkale.
With the GeoTeknik non-woven geotextile applied under the GeoSeal HDPE Membrane, protection was provided against the risk of stones etc. on the ground penetrating the geomembrane. GeoSeal HDPE Membrane, manufactured from high density polyethylene, is a product that provides impermeability in projects such as mine waste storage areas, acid pools, tank areas, ponds and irrigation channels, in addition to biological waste storage areas.
