Gemlik-Yenimahalle Different Level Interchange and Connection Roads project is an important transportation project located in the Gemlik district of Bursa province. Gemlik, where the 4th largest free zone of Türkiye is located, is also on the transportation routes of the tourism centers on the Marmara Sea coast. This project aims to reduce traffic congestion in the region, increase road safety and eliminate the danger of landslides.
Challenges Encountered:
The intersection is in an area with very high vehicle traffic depending on the season. In addition, the route passes very close to existing settlements. The fact that the slopes of the region are close to vertical for the intersection approach and connection roads and there is a risk of landslides in places are the primary problems that should be taken into consideration during the preparation and construction process of the project. For this reason, our project team prepared the plan of the wall with great care and high engineering solutions.
SOLUTION
The preferred GeoArme type in the project was RetainBlock. Since there are side roads and existing residential buildings in front of the lines where the wall will be built, it was decided that the front face of the wall should be vertical.
With the completion of the construction of the wall, the road width increased from 12 meters to 19 meters, and a continuous road passing overhead was established for flowing traffic. Thanks to the side roads added to the existing intersection, vehicles were able to leave the road safely and connect to Gemlik. In this way, while transportation relief was provided, the security demands of the surrounding residents were also met.
